Who is Lunar Lake?
My name is Isolde Tytgat.
People know me as a quirky, ADHD, queer individual with a range of fascinating passions.
Over the years, I often felt like the odd one out. But as I grew older, I learned to embrace my uniqueness and found strength in my individuality.
Photography has always intrigued me. When I graduated in 2014, my mom gifted me my first SLR camera. I had no idea how to use it or edit photos, but that didn’t deter me.
While studying, I chose to focus on graphic design and photography. To be honest, graphic design wasn’t my passion, but photography was right up my alley! I learned the basics of my camera, Lightroom, and Photoshop, though my skills were still quite elementary. I left that field in 2018 but continued to pursue photography as a hobby, seeking more knowledge online. Years later, I decided to turn photography from a hobby into a career! I take pride in being a non-discriminatory artist, allowing everyone to be their authentic selves.
Now, onto mermaiding! It’s a passion I’ve had since childhood. I’d play mermaid in the pool, often getting a bit carried away, but I didn’t mind. The water’s flow and movement always brought me calm and peace.
I also began ballet at the age of 5 in 2001, drawn to its graceful movements and emotional expression. Ballet was my life until a knee injury forced me to quit at 16. Despite leaving dance behind, I missed the flow and movement.
In 2017, five years after quitting ballet, I attended the first edition of Elftopia in Belgium. There, I met Mermaid Celine and realized that being a mermaid could still be a reality as an adult. I didn’t pursue it immediately, though. After a burnout from my previous job in 2022, I discovered Mermaid Lelie’s certification courses and knew it was meant to be. I enrolled, and after three weeks, I earned my basic mermaid certificate! In August 2022, I joined the Merdreams merfolk retreat—a week on a boat in the Mediterranean Sea, where I refined my skills and earned my model mermaid and ocean mermaid certificates. Swimming with a tail fulfilled my childhood dream and allowed me to move gracefully without my knee holding me back.
I decided to take this hobby to a professional level and share my talents with others. And the rest is history.
Lastly, in 2023, I delved into crystals and spiritual practices. After dealing with trauma, I found peace and healing in crystals. As someone who needs to stay engaged, I began crafting crystal pendants. A friend suggested making car vent clips, and, being a mermaid enthusiast, I also started creating mermaid-inspired pieces!
I even dabbled in candle making, and here we are today!
